Public officials
train fast to fear journalists,
or they become the news.
The media’s sharp,
yes, even the green stringers
that gaze into space.
They’ll pick up the buzz
and work the maddening crowd.
They are keen to take kings down.
The whiff of a lie
or the stench of corruption
doesn’t make them high,
despite what you may think.
It’s just their nose for news.
It’s business, it’s primal:
the lure of fresh blood.
